When it comes down to keeping your belongings safe, there are several things that you simply have to do.  I mean, sure, you can simply guess around when it comes to moving your belonging safely, but you might very well find that you were not, at the end of the day, careful enough for your own good.  If you would like to cancel out all of the risk, here, and make sure that you are not damaging your belongings, then you are going to want to be sure that you are following some very simple rules.  Herein, I will lay out these rules for you with the hope that you will adhere to them the next time that you are moving.  All that you stand to lose, here, is stress and disappointment.

The first rule that you have to follow is that you cannot, cannot, skimp on your moving supplies.  I truly cannot stress this point enough, reader.  If you are not willing to spend a few dollars when it comes to keeping your belongings safe, then you have no one to blame but yourself when they happen to break during your moving process.  I mean, you do not even have to buy that much, here.  You will need a few boxes for your smaller, miscellaneous items.  For these boxes, you are going to need some packing supplies as well.  Bubble wrap, packing paper, and packing peanuts may cost you a little bit of extra money, but they are going to make an absolutely huge difference when it comes to keeping your belongings safe when they are in the back of your moving truck.

Which brings me to my next point, reader.  You absolutely have to rent a moving truck if you want to keep your belongings safe as you are moving.  I know that you have thought about using your car to move all of your belongings, but just how effective do you think that is going to be?  Particularly if you stack all of your belongings up in the back of your car, you are going to risk stressing them and putting them in the path of danger.  If take a sharp turn, or, God forbid, you are in an accident, you may break some or all of the belongings that you have stuffed into the back of your standard vehicle.  When you rent a moving truck, though, you know that you are going to be able to arrive at your new home with ease.  You can strap your belongings to the side of your cab, and you can guarantee that you are going to have enough space to keep everything from toppling in on itself.  And if you are only going to be using your moving truck for a day or two, then it is hardly going to cost you a thing.  Thirty or sixty dollars is about what you are going to have to pay, here.

At the end of the day, you have to take that extra step to keep your belongings safe.  If you are not proactive in these regard, then you are only going to end up stressing yourself out down the road.  Sure, you may be paying a few extra dollars for your boxes, packing supplies, and moving truck, but now you do not have to deal with a bunch of broken belongings.

If you are in college, then you are going to want to be sure that your studies match up with your aspirations.  This, of course, means that you are going to want to take some finance courses so that you are good at handling your numbers.  You will also want to take some statistics courses so that you are good at reading the industry reports that are released every financial quarter.  Moving on, here, you are going to want to be sure that you are also taking a few communications courses, such that you are able to relate to your customers and make a great first impression.  Obviously, you are going to want to take some business management courses as well.

Now, you also have to understand that nothing is better than experience when it comes to landing a job in the self storage industry.  If you can, be sure that you work at a self storage facility before you start applying for property management positions.  Of course, you are going to want to be sure that you get experience working in a call center, or some kind of sales driven environment.  Here, you do not have to worry about limiting yourself to self storage facilities.  Absolutely any sales experience is going to be a major plus when you start applying for property management positions.

At the end of the day, reader, you are going to find that a career in self storage is worth all of the work.  Unlike many jobs, self storage property managers get to exercise a tremendous amount of control over their lives.  They get to set their own hours, and they get to be their own bosses.  If you are sick of having a boss breathing down your neck all of the time, berating you with his or her never ending commands, then you are going to want to give this career path some serious consideration.
